Fire Warden Training

Industrial machinery processing materials amidst dust and sunlight.

Course Overview

This online Fire Warden Awareness course prepares workers in the construction, mining and resources sectors to take on warden responsibilities with confidence. It covers how to identify emergency situations that require evacuation, the equipment and communication tools used during a response, and how to lead a safe and systematic evacuation of the workplace — all aligned with Australian Standard AS 3745-2010 Planning for Emergencies in Facilities and applicable WHS legislation.

The course is suitable for anyone designated as a fire warden or area warden on a construction or industrial site, as well as supervisors and HSE personnel who need a documented refresher on emergency evacuation procedures.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course Participants will be able to:

  • How to identify a range of emergency situations that may require workplace evacuation — including fire, gas release, chemical spill, structural failure and other site-specific hazards common to construction, mining and resources environments — and how to assess when evacuation is the appropriate response
  • The structure and purpose of an Emergency Control Organisation (ECO), your role and responsibilities as a fire warden within it, and how warden duties align with the requirements of Australian Standard AS 3745-2010 Planning for Emergencies in Facilities and applicable WHS legislation
  • How to locate, identify and correctly use emergency evacuation equipment found on construction and industrial sites — including alarm systems, emergency lighting, exit signage, and personal protective equipment required during an evacuation
  • How to communicate clearly and calmly under emergency conditions — including activating the alarm, relaying information to occupants and other wardens, and coordinating with emergency services — using the communication protocols appropriate to your site's Emergency Response Plan
  • How to conduct a safe and systematic evacuation of the workplace, including directing occupants to assembly areas, accounting for all personnel, managing injured or mobility-impaired workers, and completing post-evacuation reporting in line with site procedures
